Brian Collins, 35, gave his life in the line of duty fighting a church fire in Lake Worth, west of Fort Worth, on Monday, February 15, 1999. Collins was a lieutenant on the Fort Worth Fire Department and had served 15 years with the department. He was on the promotional list for Captain and was expecting a promotion within a few weeks. He was volunteering with the River Oaks Fire Department at the time of the tragedy and had been a volunteer there for 19 years.
