Summary:
On July 31, 1911, John M. Bennett was killed when he was thrown from the fire wagon as it hit a gully that had been washed out by recent rains. When the wagon struck the gully, Bennet, the wagon driver, was thrown forward and landed between the horses and the wagon. The wagon, loaded with men and equipment, then ran over Bennett’s head and chest. He died instantly.
