Summary:
Otis H. Redden was uncoupling hoses at the scene of a fire at 2112 N. Main, when he was struck by a vehicle and dragged for nearly a block. The vehicle then fled the scene. Other firefighters rushed to the aid of Redden and called for an ambulance. Redden died at a local hospital without regaining consciousness.
The driver of the vehicle that struck Redden returned to the scene and surrendered to the police. The driver, Bert Myers, was charged with murder.
