Summary:
Officer George Turner was working patrol Sunday Morning, May 20, 1928, when at about 1:00 a.m. he and other officers spotted a car that had tried to run them down a few days before when they were on bicycle duty. The officers gave chase and stopped the vehicle at E Rosedale and Louisiana. Officer Turner approached the car to speak with the driver. Almost immediately, the driver, Tenola Moore, pulled a .45 automatic from his pocket and shot Officer Turner in the chest. Moore then fled the scene on foot.
Officer Turner knew he was fatally wounded, and spoke with the officers with him. After getting assurances that they would catch his killer, he had the officers call his wife to go to the hospital. An ambulance arrived and took Officer Turner to St. Joseph Infirmary. He died several minutes before his wife and three year old daughter arrived.
