Summary:
On August 2, 1879, Fort Worth Deputy City Marshal George H. White went to the nearby village of Arlington to arrest Tom Alford with a warrant for the offense of stealing a horse. After making his arrest, Deputy Marshal White started back with his prisoner. While doing so, he was ambushed from behind by three men who were trying to help Tom Alford escape. A shootout ensued and Deputy Marshal White was able to kill one of his assailants and wound another. Deputy Marshal White sustained a shotgun wound to the abdomen and groin. He died from the effects of this wound on August 8, 1879.
