Summary:
On Friday, September 27, 1968, Motorcycle Officer Hal C. Stephenson was at the U.S. 287 / E. Lancaster exit of the East Freeway, when a car collided with his motorcycle. Officer Stephenson lost control of the motorcycle after striking a curb. The driver of the vehicle told traffic investigators that he did not see Stephenson coming up on his inside when he changes lanes to take the Lancaster exit.
Officer Stephenson received a broken leg and serious internal injuries. He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, where he died on October 2, 1968.
