Summary:
Officer James C. Gaul died January 10, 1979 from wounds he received January 4, 1979 in a shootout with a deranged gunman at 3401 Pearl. Officer Gaul was wounded in the head and leg when he and another officer approached the front door of the residence at 3401 Pearl. They were answering a call about a man firing a gun.
The suspect was killed in the ensuing gun battle with other officers.
