Officer Jimmie F. Chadwell was assigned to the Fugitive Squad was shot and killed on December 11, 1978, while serving a misdemeanor arrest warrant at 3514 Ross. The suspect, Richard Urias, opened fire from inside a bathroom of the house. Officer Chadwell was struck in the head and was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital. A second officer was also wounded by gunfire.
The suspect, Richard Urias, died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
