Officer Ogletree ordered Lee to drop the weapon, but Lee fired both barrels, striking Officer Ogletree in the chest. Officer Ogletree staggered to the steps of a nearby saloon, drew his weapon, and fired at Lee but missed. Officer Ogletree was taken to St. Joseph infirmary where he died.
