Summary:
On July 16, 1941, at about 0510 hrs, Fort Worth Police Officer Marshall C. “Mike” Kennedy was on routine patrol with his partner, Officer C.J. Carter, when they discovered a stolen car in Buck Sansom Park. Officer Carter and Officer Kennedy decided to drive the stolen vehicle back to the police station. Officer Carter was driving the stolen car and Officer Kennedy was driving the police unit.

Shortly after starting back, Officer Carter saw the vehicle veer into an embankment. He stopped his car and ran back to check on Officer Kennedy. He found Officer Kennedy barely breathing. The police radio was not functioning well, so Officer Carter ran to a telephone. By the time help arrived, Officer Kennedy was dead from an apparent heart attack.
